Australia’s Caravan and RV market keeps on growing . By January 2025 , we were looking at a total of around 834,220 registered caravans – which is a 3.8% increase from the number.
Every month we are seeing around 3,400 units of new caravans and camper trailers being registered, which really highlights the strong demand that is still out there
Family people are the main driving force behind caravan travel, with a whopping 31% of trips being taken by families.
This growing trend is also behind people wanting 5 berth hybrid caravans – these combine a compact towable design with the comforts and amenities of a full-on family caravan
The RV industry is now worth a cool AUD 16.95 billion and we are expecting it to keep growing at a rate of 7.3% right through to 2034. If we look at the numbers for early 2025, we are seeing around 3,400-3,600 units of caravans and camper trailers being registered each month, showing that the market is still growing strongly
Breaking it down by weight its interesting to see where they all fall – you’ve got: under 1000kg (22%), 1001 – 1500 kg (22.9%), 1501 – 2000kg (17.9%), 2001 – 2500 (22.2%), and anything over 2500kg (12.4%).
If you are after a small, compact hybrid caravan in 2025, you can expect to pay between AUD 40,000 and 75,000 – but by 2026 we are expecting that price to go up to between AUD 45,000 and 80,000.
And to make it even more interesting non-metalised RVs – yes, caravans – make up a whopping 94% of all the RVs made locally in Australia.
All in all, it’s looking like 2025-2026 are going to be a big two years for 5 berth hybrid caravans in Australia
With rising numbers, strong family participation and higher priced models all pointing in the same direction, it looks like people are going to be after caravans that can cater to the whole family, are super comfortable and offer the flexibility to go on all sorts of adventures.

The SCT18 is designed with families in mind, sleeping up to 5 people – including a big, king-size master bed (2.0m x 2.0m) that’s perfect for grown ups and a triple bunk that’s 2 metres long – so the kids have plenty of room to stretch out.
This layout is really great for families with kids (or teenagers) – it means everyone gets their own bed, and you don’t have to worry about them all cuddling up together like sardines.
Having a proper king size bed for the grown ups and full-length bunks for the kids is like having your own home on wheels – it’s especially useful on those long trips when you want to be comfortable.
The SCT18 isn’t just a tough off-road van – it’s also got all the comforts of home:
It’s got a full ensuite (toilet + shower + hot water) – not many hybrid caravans can say that, especially the ones with bunks.
You’ll find internal and external kitchens, loads of storage, and a living/dining area where you can cook, eat and relax – even when you’re far from the nearest power point.
We’ve got power and off-grid capability sorted – with lithium batteries, solar, inverter and battery management, you can run all the essentials – lights, appliances, fridge, pump water and more – even when you’re way off the beaten track.
We’re talking 200L of fresh water and 120L of grey water here – that’s enough to keep you going for several days off-grid before you need to refill.

The Mars 15 Elite Triple Bunk is all about accommodating groups – and it’s pretty rare to find a hybrid caravan that can squeeze in 5 people (2 adults + 3 adults/ kids). You’ve got a king-size main bed and three king-single bunk beds to boot.
We reckon this layout is a game-changer for families or groups of mates – you get the space to travel with the people you love, without the hassle and towing demands of a larger van that’s just not needed.
For families with kids or groups of mates, it’s all about finding that sweet spot of practicality and space-efficiency – and this layout does just that.
We know what you’re thinking – “it’s a small caravan, it’ll be cramped”. But the 15 Elite defies that – it’s still got all the comforts you need: internal and external kitchens, dual fridges, a fully functional cooking setup and heaps of storage.
And it’s not just about the basics – you’ve also got aircon (reverse-cycle A/C), a hot water system, and all the amenities you need to stay comfy on those long trips or hot summer days.
And because it’s a compact van, it’s a breeze to tow and maneuver – even on narrow tracks, low overhangs or in windy conditions.

The Rugrat 5-Berth is the ideal choice for families of up to 5, with a huge king-size master bed and three king-single bunks to keep everyone happy.
This full-height interior lets you stand up to 2 metres tall – a whole lot more room to move than you’d get in a smaller hybrid caravan, even if they are the same length.
With a triple bunk setup and that king bed, the Rugrat is perfect for families with kids of all ages – it’s private, comfy, and convenient, especially on those long multi-day trips.
The Rugrat uses off-road suspension designed to handle the toughest terrain – heavy-duty coil springs, dual shocks, alloy rims and mud-terrain tyres all work together for a smooth ride.
We’ve optimised the ground clearance and chassis strength for Australian off-road conditions, so you can tackle dirt tracks, gravel roads and even minor creek crossings with confidence.
This is a hybrid that’s perfect for families who love getting out into the wild without sacrificing a thing.
The combination of a lightweight frame, full-height interior, triple bunks and an external fold-out ensuite is super rare in hybrids under 16 feet – and it makes the Rugrat a standout.
Great for families who want a balance of comfort, mobility and off-road capability.
It’s also a great choice for those who want a caravan that can handle both quick weekend getaways and longer remote trips without becoming a handful to tow.

The Pilbara 153 is designed to sleep up to 5 people – a king-size bed, two permanent bunk beds and a foldable bunk bed. That’s a lot of people under one roof!
This layout is perfect for families with kids. Parents can have a bit of their own space while the little nippers have their own beds. No need for separate tents or trailers – it’s all in one place.
We’ve tried to strike a balance between size and space. This caravan might not be the biggest on the market, but it’s still roomy enough to accommodate families or small groups, without sacrificing comfort.
The Pilbara 153 comes with a top-notch 600W solar system and 400Ah lithium battery capacity. That means you’ll have enough power to keep all your appliances running while you’re off-grid – lights, fridge, water pump… you name it.
We’ve also included a full internal ensuite (toilet, shower, basin) and a hot-water system that’s powered by both gas and electric. And if you’re feeling peckish, our external slide-out stainless steel kitchen has got you covered with a 4-burner gas stove and sink.
And just to make life even easier, we’ve added a 3kW reverse-cycle air conditioner, a diesel heater and an annexe with anti-flap kit. You’ll be as comfortable as you are at home no matter where your travels take you.

The Bluetongue XH16 has got it just right for a family or group of five – a king-size bed for the adults and triple bunks for the kids (or extra adults) to snuggle up in.
Its 15-16 foot body is the sweet spot – long enough to be comfy inside, but not so big that it becomes a handful to tow, making it just right for families wanting to balance size and comfort.
And because it’s a hybrid, it can pop out to give you full headroom and loads more space inside, all while keeping the overall size down for easy towing.
The interior layout has got everything you need – a compact kitchen, heaps of storage, and a comfy spot to sit and relax with the family.
And because we know that sometimes you need to be able to get away from it all – the water and power systems are set up for off-grid camping, with a fresh water tank, grey water tank, and optional solar panels to keep the fridge running all day long.
And if you get hot or cold, don’t worry – there’s even an option for air conditioning to make your trip even more comfortable.

Inside, you’ll find a built-in fridge, full ensuite (shower, toilet etc) and a proper kitchen area – think cooking meals, washing up and generally living like you’re at home, all from the comfort of your van.
External kitchen options or extra storage are just the ticket for whipping up a barbie in the sunshine or heading off for a camping trip.

The Quantum Plus Hybrid camper is designed to sleep up to 5 people, with a proper king-size master bed and a set of triple bunk beds that are perfect for your little ones or extra adults.
With a full-height interior you can stand up straight, which makes the living area feel a lot more comfortable and makes it way easier to get around, than most hybrids out there.
And we’ve set things up so your adults get some decent privacy while the kids have their own space to crash out in – making it perfect for multi-day family camping trips.
We’ve got both internal and external kitchen setups so you can cook up whatever you like, and there’s loads of storage for all your gear for those longer trips.
If you need to, there’s an option to have a fold out or internal ensuite, just for added convenience when you’re off the grid.
We’ve also got lithium batteries, solar panels and an inverter system to keep you charged up for days with no need to worry about power for your lights, appliances etc.
And to make sure you don’t have to keep running back to get water, we’ve got a 180-200 L fresh water tank and a grey water tank for easy water management.

The full ensuite (shower and toilet) is great for keeping everyone clean and happy during longer trips.
And with its lithium battery, solar panels and inverter, you can keep your fridge and lights running for days – even when you’re miles from the nearest power pole.
There’s also water tanks to keep you going for longer – 180 litres of fresh water and 120 litres of grey water should keep the family happy and refreshed.

A 5 Berth Hybrid Caravan is basically a family-friendly motorhome that can easily sleep up to five people in comfort – making it perfect for families and groups who love the great outdoors.
The beauty of these caravans is that they’ve got all the features of a regular caravan, but they also come with some clever expandable bits like fold-out beds or pop-up tent sections – which adds so much more living and sleeping space without having to tow a huge beast.
In short, if you’re looking for something that’s real comfortable, super flexible and convenient to tow on the road then a 5 Berth Hybrid Caravan is the way to go.
Now, when it comes to the cost of a 5 Berth Hybrid Caravan, it really does depend on what brand and model you choose to go with, what features you want and need, and so on.
On average, a brand new one can cost anywhere between AUD 60,000 and AUD 120,000 – but the price can go up if you decide to add on some extra bits and bobs like solar panels, air con or upgraded suspension.
Well, these caravans are designed to be super compact for easier towing while still managing to cram in lots of sleeping space – which is perfect for families and groups.
Flexibility is the key with these caravans – they’ve got clever layouts with expandable beds, extra living space, and lots of storage solutions to keep everything tidy and convenient.
And the best bit is that they’re also way more fuel-efficient than those bigger, traditional caravans, making them the perfect choice for family camping trips, extended road trips and adventures.
The good news is that most medium to large SUVs, 4x4s and dual-cab utes are up to the task of towing a 5 Berth Hybrid Caravan.
However, it’s really important to make sure that you check your caravan’s weight and your vehicle’s towing capacity before you set off – because using the right towing setup is pretty much essential for safe and smooth travel.
If you want your caravan to last for years to come, you’ve got to look after it properly – and that means regular maintenance is a must.
Before every trip, always check those tires, brakes and suspension, then give those seals, canvas sections and living areas a good inspection to make sure they’re all still in good nick.
And don’t forget to service your electrical systems, water tanks and gas fittings according to the manufacturer’s guidelines – or your caravan is likely to start causing you more problems than it’s worth.
Finally, make sure to store your caravan properly during the off-season – that means covering it up and finding a nice, shaded spot to keep it – to keep it in top condition and prolong its lifespan.
